Acai Berries

Summer is here and I’m really enjoying all of the fresh fruit available. My favorite summer breakfast is a fruit smoothie. My favorite smoothie recipe = 6 Strawberries -1 Banana – 1/2 Mango, with 4oz of yogurt a little fresh ginger, a cup of Cheerios and sometimes a little carrot or pineapple juice. YUM!!!

Recently I went to Walmart for more carrot juice. There in the health-food section I saw some Acai Berry juice. I’d heard about all of its claims as a great antioxidant super-food and I’ve also seen the glut of ads on the net touting it as an aid to weight loss. So I thought I’d try it, why not.

Well it was a fairly large bottle (64 oz) and a whoppin’ $6. A lot for juice I thought so I got only one (I’ve since learned that there’s a fancy brand sold in wine bottles going for about $40) I finished most of it in about 3 days. I absolutely love the taste. It’s maybe just a little too sweet since the brand I bought is actually a blend of powdered Acai Berries with other concentrated fruit juices but it gave my smoothies a deep rich berry flavor and a thicker consistency than the carrot or pineapple juice I normally use. I also enjoyed a few glasses of the juice over ice – delicious!

Well I suspect the weight loss claims might be related to it’s mild laxative action. Many fruit juices have that effect, but what’s been different about the Acai Berry juice, is that the fat in my middle seems to be softening. It Makes stuff a lot easier to zip that’s for sure. Lately my trusty jean skirt has been closing effortlessly.

I went back to Walmart for a re-fill. There were only 4 bottles left of the Acai , but every other type of juice was still pretty well stocked. Hummm? I thought who’s devouring all these $6 bottles of juice and why. Could it be there’s really something to this…

I bought 3 more bottles- just in case.
